Protest for Children Separated From Their Parents

June 21, 2018 by Admin-NYInterFaithImmig Leave a Comment

A prayer vigil and rally to protest the separation of children from their parents as they cross the United States-Mexico border will be held on Sunday, June 24 from 8 to 9 p.m. in Cherry Hill. The interfaith meeting will be held in front of Christ Our Light Church, 402 North Kings Highway.

Various local faith communities are involved. There will be parking in the Christ Our Light lot and in the nearby Unitarian Universalist Church lot at 401 North Kings Highway.

Organizers ask participants to bring flags from different countries, candles, and posters expressing concern for children that the United States government has separated from their parents. Participants will be given information on political leaders to contact to protest the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy.

So the result of the zero tolerance policy has been a sharp increase in family separations. About 2,000 immigrant children were separated from their parents for six weeks in April and May, according to the Department of Homeland Security. “
